What does Dimsome do?
Dimsome takes blue and green light off your screen in the evening and keeps the backlight at full power so the screen does not flicker. It changes by itself through the day: brighter for 4 hours after you wake, then a slow 4-hour fade to pure red by 8 pm.
How much does Dimsome cost?
€6.99 a month or €54.99 a year. One subscription covers your computer and your phone, up to 3 devices with the same key. Cancel any time.
Which devices does Dimsome work on?
Mac (macOS 13 or later), Windows (10 or later) and Android (8 or later). An iPhone version is on its way to the App Store and the same key will work there.
How is Dimsome different from f.lux or Night Shift?
Night Shift and Windows Night light are free and built in, but they stop at a mild amber and do nothing about flicker. f.lux is free and powerful, with many settings. Dimsome goes to pure red on computers, has a flicker guard, fades so slowly you never notice, follows your day instead of sunset, and is the same simple app on every device with your times synced between them.
What is screen flicker?
Many screens dim by switching the backlight on and off hundreds of times a second (PWM), especially at low brightness. Dimsome's flicker guard keeps the backlight at full power and dims the picture itself instead, so the backlight does not flicker. It works on built-in screens and most external screens.
How do I install it on Mac?
Open the zip file and drag Dimsome into Applications. This first version is not yet notarised by Apple, so macOS stops it the first time. Go to System Settings, Privacy & Security, and choose Open Anyway. The Way of Life mark then appears in the menu bar next to the clock.
How do I install it on Windows?
Open the zip file and run Dimsome. This version is not yet signed, so Windows may show a blue window. Choose More info and then Run anyway. Dimsome then appears in the system tray, bottom right.
How do I install it on Android?
Download the file on your phone, open it and allow installs from your browser. When the app opens it asks to display over other apps, so the filter can cover the whole screen. A Google Play version is on its way.
Does the filter show up in screenshots?
Not on Mac. Dimsome changes what the screen shows, not the image itself, so screenshots and screen sharing keep the right colours.
How do I cancel?
Open Dimsome and choose Manage subscription, or go to your account and we email you a link. You keep Dimsome until the end of the period you have paid for.
I lost my key.
Go to your account and enter your email. We send you a link to your key.
Is Dimsome a blue light filter?
Yes, and it goes further. A blue light filter turns blue down; Dimsome's evening setting takes blue and green away so only red light is left on computers. Read more about the red screen filter.
Does Dimsome work on a MacBook Pro or an OLED screen that flickers when dim?
That is what the flicker guard is for. It keeps the backlight at full power and dims the picture instead. A few screens flicker even at full brightness, and Dimsome cannot change that. Read about screen flicker (PWM).
